But we are keen to being “pretty” much on point and calling it how we see it. Given this opportunity we’d like to touch on a topic that seems to have a diverse premise and its emphasis tends to trigger emasculation rather than emulation. That being said lets kick this off like this. A “Dandy” also known as a beau, gallant or flamboyant person is a man who places particular importance and/or significance upon his physical appearance, refined language, and leisurely hobbies. Historically, especially in late 18th and early 19th century Britain, a dandy was self-made and often strove to imitate an aristocratic style of life despite coming from a middle-class background. Now fast forward to the 21st century and where does that leave us? With the same posture; pun intended, new terminology and too general a characterization to really appreciate this distinctive role in the male “genderalization”! The “Modern Dandy” or “Metro-Sexual” as our contemporaries have deemed him has taken on many personas in the new millennium, some on point and some very far off the beaten path. For starters real men with taste and style, who know about fashion, art, and culture, continue to exist and flourish, no pun intended here. Their appreciation of sophistication and refinement does not imply they are on the fringes of “faggot-dom” or leaning towards some gay gray area! Now we here at BoccA Fina magazine are not homophobic nor are we gay and we do believe, “to each his own”. But as a straight male, if you have extremely refined tastes in clothing, an excessive use of designer hygiene products, and enjoy making yourself look good, then your metro-sexual not homosexual. The reality is that metro-sexual does not describe a new gender role, but rather a different style or manner emerging under the male role. In this new age of enlightenment there is a male median between “Lumberjock” and “Effeminate masculinity”. Instinctively Europeans have grasped this cosmopolitan mind-set, but in America men who dabble in vanity or in supercilious romantic concerns seem less like men when in fact they are probably “better lovers”, “the perfect gentleman”or “the autonomous aristocrat”! Ok so we know this is not the last word on this, and we are sure you have your take on it; but it’s our two cents for sure, and that’s coming from a staff that contains heterosexual males who prefer wine over beer and appreciates the finer things in life!
So Men don’t be afraid to express yourself, get your man-scaping on and your manicures, facials, & massages, as well as using those designer products because in the long of it we are the best deal out there!

Player Elements

by Chet Euton for BoccA Fina Magazine
Money can’t buy love but it sure can buy a hell of a lot of the toys that we love! When it comes to enjoying life people have always felt the need to express themselves in the most extravagant of manners. Whether they are prudent or impractical expenditures, the necessity to play well and live lavish changes with every generation in prolific proportions. As far back as recorded history allows; man has consecutively raised the bar on the possessions that bring pleasure and satisfaction to him. Maybe a sign of the era but from the moment we can afford to make our dreams a reality we choose that significant direction of high end tastes and sophisticated essentials that represent the good life. Everything from chic jewelry, to euro super cars to über cool clothing, times have changed and so have the trends that define our spending. Two or three decades ago we were complacent with cookie cutter high end objects that celebrities and personalities hypnotically flaunted in their upper circles. Circa 2009 present day, with a higher diversification of wealth, an increase of income across middle wage constituents and a hell of a lot more imagination; and those high end objects are not only obtainable but they have to stand out and be ultra unique to its owner!
For example, it’s not enough to own a $ 300k Ferrari nowadays; it has to be taken to the next level. Complete makeovers and unlimited customization that is the standard for serious players. Everything from performance packages to one off paint jobs to $50k multimedia sound systems. We’ve taken personalization with regards to affluence to a new level with intensity. That goes for everything we wear to what ever we are seen with, and its not just personalities and celebrities that are shinning out.
Overall the number of wealthier households is on the rise with baby boomers hitting the highs of their careers. The wealth or more specifically net worth increase has changed our level of acquisitions tremendously. While a relationship between ultra consumer products and social class still exists to some extent, a blending of upper, middle class, and the mass affluent mentalities has taken precedence were the congregation are no longer just satisfied with prestigious marquees and premium up-market commodities. To put it briefly brand-segregated clothing, chocolates, cologne, luxury automobiles and high-end electronics to name a few, have taken on a new perspective for the affluent. Once sought after as the tell tale signs of “wealthy” individuals, they are the common moniker of the “rich”. And yes there is a difference between rich and wealthy! At the present time, tailored trinkets and custom-made concept goodies are what set apart the status level when playing hard. So at the end of the day he or she who dies with the most modified toys wins!

V.I.P

by Chet Euton

An expression, a phrase, or an over commercialized lifestyle? The term was coined between 1940 and 1945, and refers to a “Very Important Person”; an individual who is accorded special privileges due to his or her status or stature. With that distinction comes a demeanor, a disposition and a responsibility to conduct ones self in an appropriate and befitting manner. Examples of V.I.Ps include celebrities, heads of state, high rollers, politicians, high-level corporate officers, wealthy individuals, or any other person who receives special treatment for reputation or prominence. If you find yourself any where between and betwixt these; then we are speaking about you. Where are we going with this, well once we can identify and comprehend the classification, then we should be very capable of applying it to relevant situations, for example nightclub VIP etiquette!
Reason being, and we never thought that we would have to say this, but the veracity of the situation is that countless people don’t know how to behave in a nightclub VIP section. Call it new money; call it lack of edification or even possibly out right arrogance. But all in all, there is a deficiency in decorum and an over abundance of garish couth that can no longer be tolerated; now that being said, what can we offer to stem the insurrection?
Some sage advice perhaps, a few guidelines for a good approach to exclusive social gatherings, maybe! But the premise here is to bear in mind that even though you are a VIP don't be selfish. There are other people around you wishing to take pleasure in the amenities being offered and party just as hard.
Ok so let’s skip the preliminaries, you’re in the club already and obviously up in the “VIP”. Here is our five “D”s to derive total benefits and dazzle humanity with high society modus operandi.

Dress code: garments are an aspect of human physical emergence, and like other aspects of human physical emergence it has social significance. Your clothing not only sends messages of who you are, “your personal identity”; it signals social class as well. So unless you’re an uber trend setter, always dress appropriately. It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed; being underdressed only affords you the look of being socially inept. Check the dress code of the venue you will be attending most clubs judge visitors' clothing and refuse entrance to those not clad according to specified or intuited requirements.

Drinking: Drinking removes inhibitions! That’s a warning, a hint and a tip! And that should be a no brainer. Know your limits and drink responsibly. To get started, most clubs on par have “Bottle Service” with a menu; the demand for bottle service like VIP hospitality has grown considerably in the past few years. Get to know the clubs policy and prices and order according to your taste. For example, Bottle prices can range from $400-$9000 dollars plus tax, gratuity, and the price of the table. Most clubs require a 2 bottle minimum, with a 1 bottle per 3 person policy. "The table" typically has a cost as well and also varies, but may be negotiated based on persons and bottles before hand.

Dance: Dancing is a matter of preference and choice, like your garments it is another aspect of human physical emergence used as a form of expression, social interaction and non-verbal communication. So if you feel the need to “Krump”, “Electricslide”, “Freestyle” or whatever floats your boat; here are two suggestions. Be considerate of those around you. Know your boundaries with regards to respect and seating. Secondly, dance well because all eyes are on you in the VIP.

Drama: simple, don’t start none won’t be none! When possible there should always be a designated cooler. That’s a sensible person in the entourage (if you role like that) who has the common sense to foresee any problems or issues that may arise as well as be able to communicate or mediate with club staff coherently.

Decency: Don't be rude or insolent; with prominence comes proper manners. Get to know your hostess’s name, politeness goes very far and comes in handy to get extra perks. Besides nobody likes to be treated like a servant even if it’s their job. Tips, the practice of tipping is meant as a form of thank-you for services rendered or beforehand as a subtle bribe for special treatment. Show your appreciation for good or superlative service.

These are just a few pointers, nothing written in stone but it can and will make your nightclub VIP experience smoother and more enjoyable! So remember if you’re in the VIP it’s because you deserve to be there, you’ve earned that privilege, so act accordingly!

Like a Rock Star

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;

It does not represent a single movement or a school of thought, but it is a standard of living, a level of affluence, a way of life; and there is nothing more synonymous to prosperity then knowing how to appropriately “move and smooze”!

Let me clarify, “Move” is basically your swagger, your strut or simply how you carry your self. “Smooze”, well it’s merely those parties, events or soirées that you are there to set the tone and get things popping. Wall to wall individuals trying to make a statement and the only place to be is up in the VIP showing them how it’s done. In other words living and partying like a rock star.

What exactly am I talking about? Hitting the mark with flair, that’s the general premise of life, is it not? You can’t underestimate the seductive power of the lifestyle; you may or may not aspire to it, but its all around us from MTV to BET to Discovery Channel believe it or not. So how is it really done? Well first let me clear up a major misconception; understand it’s not just about “Bottles and Bling”. Deep pockets or being wealthy is just one third of the total equation. It starts with your social life, a bit of multitasking. Being able to hang out with fervor and entertain those around you with panache. It is the ability to mingle on all upwardly mobile social levels, knowing the hottest people and places, and where the party is, at all times. It is the aptitude and skills you posses to present yourself and your ideas confidently to the clique. It is you’re “A - game” and you being on top of it!

Thirdly, what validates the “RockStar” persona should be very evident. Noticeably it is the company you keep. It’s about strategically positioning yourself around positive people whose ambitions and endeavors create the proper atmosphere conducive to the lifestyle. Networking is the key in any business and so should it be in your social life. For what is a social gathering other than a marketing campaign of sorts? You are purely the product, and like everyone else you are making a presentation of what you have to offer. How you present yourself sets you apart. But, always appreciate what is around you, enjoy the ambiance of the moment and be able to contribute to it positively. This may seem off the beaten path, but if you understand the dynamics of positive energy then you’re more than familiar with what encompasses a quality of life.

As with any lifestyle there is a dogma to adhere to. What I like to pass on as the three “I”s; Intellect, Influence and Important figures. Intellect, be able to hold an intelligent conversation or be witty when possible. For wit is a form of intellectual humor and the association of ideas. Be bright but not overbearing, no one likes a smartass. Influence, is a discipline which always involves empowerment. Empowerment is a process of obtaining opportunities whether overt or covert. Learn how to improve or enhance your influence. Also know how and when to exert that influence. Important figures, notable persons, VIPs, prominent people, the significant and distinguished population; it may sound egoist but their status, power, talent and influence can contribute significantly to your quality of life. Align yourself in the right circles. To sum it all up, use your influence well, network smartly and always put out positive energy. It’s the foundation for that RockStar perception! Remember popping bottles, partying and profiling are the frame for the bigger picture.

BoccA TV - Blue Back Yard Segment

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Respectfully the conviction here that validates this premise is that you want to succeed. That may sound redundant but everyone isn’t on the same page when it comes to succeeding or even getting out of the gate for that matter. What separates us, the winners, the movers and the shakers is our ability to “Grind”! Why? Because you can shoot for the stars but don’t expect to go to the moon with out a ship, feel me?

The “Grind”, it starts with an understanding and a commitment to self; it is defined by the realization of our limitations i.e. money, resources, aptitude, associations and the feasibility of those interactions mixed optimally! It is the effort, the labor, the drive we exert to get from point A to point B regarding our goals and ambitions. If the Hustle is the game of life then the Grind is the force that fuels it.

Ok, seeing as how I have limited space I’ll keep this lean and mean. If you feel the need for more elaboration you can meet me in the VIP where we can chop it up in the midst of a few bottles of Dom P, bring your black card.

To begin, make your mind up to follow four or more of these ten guidelines and I guarantee you’re sure to be on top of your game and on the road to accomplishing your goals, goals being the generic expression to indicate your motivated interests.

1. Organize: “GYST”! In order for you to get your hustle on you need to “Get Your Shit Together”. Get your mind right and get prepared to wrap it around your task(s), Simple!

2. Research: Look before you leap. Discover and understand your interests and what they may entail. "Due Diligence" is key here with regards to general obligations, information, business transactions and people.

3. Plan: Don’t run “Willie - Nillie” into the night! Develop a game plan and visualize the end result. Start by defining what you want. Then take those things and define them further. i.e. I want money, how much money, I want health , how healthy? Realize that no matter how carefully you plan, of course, the unexpected happens, have a contingency plan as well.

4. Finance: Be able to raise funds. But also know how to spend those funds wisely. If you have the necessary funds that are crucial to set your plans in motion you’re one step ahead in the hustle. If not realize that you would have to research and plan for fund appropriation before you grind.

5. Relationships: Trust NO one and learn to use your enemies. Be aware of who can help and who can hinder your plans. Know who you’re dealing with. Envy is easily aroused when advancement is evident. In fact you have more to fear from friends than from enemies.

6. Listen: The streets talk. Trends, supporters, opposition, something is always in the air. Change is constant. Keep an ear out for what affects you as well as what affects your supporters and rivals. Learn to use that information to your benefit.

7. Prospects: “Peripheral Vision”, never be so focused that you miss the boat. Opportunities may present themselves on your grind. Dedication in your hustle is good. But, take the time to deviate and take advantage of other prospects when they introduce themselves. Bear in mind #6

8. Reliability: Reputation is power, and with power all things are possible. Especially where financing is concerned! Need I say more?

9. Adjust. Adopt the practice of learning and applying new skills acquired as well as utilizing new opportunities to further your grind and inevitably your hustle. Raise the bar and take it to the next level always. Just doing enough is never enough!

10. Evaluate: “Forward-Thinking”, be intuitive because nothing is written in stone. Your hustle will not mange itself, Therefore assess periodically your direction, your relationships and your goals.

In closing I would like to borrow a little nugget of knowledge from “The 48 Laws of Power”. A philosophy my hustle subscribes to and my grind adheres to. “Do not go past the mark you aimed for; in victory, learn when to stop. The moment of victory is often the moment of greatest peril. In the heat of victory, arrogance and overconfidence can push you past the goal you had aimed for, and by going too far, you make more enemies than you defeat. Do not allow success to go to your head. There is no substitute for strategy and careful planning. Set a goal and when you reach it, stop.

INK

By Chet Euton

“A non verbalized articulation of ones mentality!”

Surfacing bigger than ever this past year as evidenced by the high influx of reality TV programming, celebrity propaganda and the plain old plethora of tatted people; it has become flamboyantly obvious that tattoos are overwhelmingly a part of today’s main stream lifestyle. Very visibly, it’s apparent that tattoos are not as unmentionable or taboo as they once were some 20 – 25 years ago. No longer just the superstitious souvenirs of sailors or the signs of society's undesirables, Tattoos permeate everyday life and every standard of living.

Mainly because the 20 – 30 year old movers, shakers and pop culture icons who run things at present in the media and major industries personify power in their ink laden skin. Everything from spiritual iconography, vintage styles, group affiliations or ornamental motifs set the tone for the post millennium generations claim to fame.

Tattoos have become an individual’s illustrated expression of self. “A non verbalized articulation of ones mentality!” Possibly as a personalized celebration of nonconformity or an open statement of autonomy, but what ever the case may be the tattooing game has changed.

Currently A whole new aspect to tattooing has emerged. Formal artists and exceptional custom work has raised the bar. Although very prevalent now in many shops, the choices of images, styles and techniques are overwhelming as is the price tag that accompanies these fashionably unique messages to society. Ranging anywhere from $100 dollars an hour to $1500 dollars and up for one of a kind pieces, tattoos are the new toys for the times.

If you’re “Inked” already like me you will take pride in your piece(s) and feel where I’m coming from. If you don’t have one already you are more than likely contemplating the where (on your body), the what and who (the artist) of this mission.

With regards to the aforementioned I give this advice, where is up to you and how much you want to share that state of mind. The what, well my personal premise is to choose a personally significant tattoo, what does that mean? Select a design that is important to you because it will remain with you as long as you remain in your skin! The who is your research project, do your homework! This should take as much time as you would when purchasing a car.

So whether you believe it’s a fad or an art form either way its here to stay for at least another 50 years, which is roughly the lifespan of this “Inked Generation!

2008 Just A Note!

I am leaving the past behind and grabbing the future with full force!

4 oz bittersweet chocolate

3 oz almond paste

1 TBS hot strong coffee

1 TBS Frangelico

2 TBS cocoa powder

Chop the chocolate in a food processor until finely ground. Add the almond paste, and process until smooth. With the motor running add the coffee, and Frangelico, and continue to process until mixture forms a soft ball. Roll mixture into ¾ inch balls, and sprinkle them with cocoa powder. Place balls in small paper cups and chill.

Story of chocolate

All throughout history chocolate has been known as the aphrodisiac of aphrodisiacs. The Aztecs and Mayans were the first to recognize the power of chocolate. It’s reported that Aztec ruler Montezuma would drink 50 cups each day to better service his harem of 600 women. Casanova the infamous 18th century lover believed in the powers of chocolate, and apparently so do we. Worldwide we consume 600,000 tons of cacao beans each year. That’s about 3 lbs per person per year world wide. The scientific community also believes in the aphrodisiac properties of chocolate as it contains phenylethylamine, the very same molecule that courses through our veins when we are in love.
http://www.daretoberare.com

Island Fashion Tips

by Chet Euton
The last time I gave fashion advice I upset a few people hahahahaha, TOO BAD!
I..m still not cosigning Flip flops and throwbacks as club gear get over it! Although the warm weather and nonchalant attitude are some of the most attractive features of St. Maarten, some people still have trouble trying to put the proper clothing together that they will need (key word here is Need) in paradise. Firstly whether you opt for purposeful travel attire for on the road touring or elegant apparel for evenings of painting the town red, be sure to pack for the tropics, clothing of lightweight breathable fabrics and natural fibers such as silks, light cottons, and linens for your magic moments in St. Maarten.
Why? Because easy to wear, lightweight fabrics serve the dual purpose of allowing for the ubiquitous sea breezes and providing comfort for getting your lounge on.
Here are my do..s and don..ts of island clothing etiquette.

1. The ..slob look.. is never appreciated or appropriate. Clean up after a long hot day.
2. Swim suits are never proper in any restaurants or clubs for main dining and dancing; neither is flip flops, throwbacks, cut-offs nor tank tops. (and yes I do wear Flip flops but I..m grown and sexy so I don..t rock throwbacks)
3. Please, please, please leave those dam Hawaiian print outfits at home especially the ..his & hers... If you want to wear those go to Hawaii!
4. Understand the terms formal, informal and casual and what they mean for a night out!
Formal: For men, it means a dark suit with tie for women; it is a gown or cocktail dress.
Informal: For men, informal is a collared shirt and/or a jacket, perhaps a tie if your slick like that. For women, any attractive evening outfit with out flip flops. (Last time, promise)
Casual: For men, can be collared shirt or clean Tee with slacks or clean jeans. (Notice the clean came up a couple of times?) For women a dress, a pant suit, oh hell something sexy. No daisy dukes with your gut hanging out over the snap please! Smart casual works 99% of the time. No reason to feel intimidated. It's all part of the image game. So keep it real I..m watching you!

Beach Tips

by Chet Euton
Ok so you just got off the plane your all checked in and ready to hit the beach. I mean that..s what you..re here for right? Whoa slow your roll playas, there are a few common sense tips we need to rehash before you bake what Ya mama gave Ya. First Sunscreen, this is probably the most important item in your beach bundle. Make sure that you have sufficient sunscreen protection for yourself and you..re Peeps. The sun's ultraviolet rays are at their strongest around the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., so check your time in the sun during those hours. You need to choose a sunscreen lotion that is at the very least 15 SPF because red only looks good on fire trucks and sports cars, feel me! Also don..t forget all exposed skin, including ears, nose, neck and your lips. Bring along some sun protective lip balm with an SPF of 15 or more. You got to keep the lips tight; you never know who you..ll meet up in the club tonight (wink). An Aloe based after sun lotion is a great way to soothe your skin after a sultry day in the sun, apply this after your day at the beach and only after you..ve thoroughly cleansed all salt and sand from your sexy tanned body or almost tanned body. (p.s. don..t try to do it all in one day DUH!) Now Your looking real swank in your designer shades but the real deal is Sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays are where its at, hey I..m not hating but if your $200 shades aren..t up to spec than at least rock a sun hat or something with a brim to protect your eyes. Also splurge a little on the beach for an umbrella; they are where it..s at for added protection. Being in the sun can swiftly dehydrate you. That..s why what you put into your body is just as important as what you put on it. Next tip water & snacks, bring along a cooler if your rolling LARGE or even if your not. Bottled water, fresh fruit, pretzels, cold sandwiches and carrot sticks are a definite plus to an enjoyable beach day. Me myself, I like a nice bottle of wine and a bag of cooler ranch Doritos but I..m a mad man on a mission so do as I say and not as I do. Oh and lastly don..t forget your camera! You can get a waterproof disposable camera just about anywhere to capture all of those sunny St. Maarten moments. Here is a little check list to help you stay on point, Enjoy!
.. ___ sunscreen (at least 15 SPF)
.. ___ lip balm
.. ___ aloe after sun lotion
.. ___ first aid kit
.. ___ sun hat / Cap
.. ___ sunglasses (UV protection)
.. ___ beach umbrella
.. ___ towels (1or 2 extras)
.. ___ bottled water
.. ___ snacks
.. ___ waterproof disposable camera
.. ___ pail & shovel (good ole entertainment)

Gastronomy Tips

by Chet Euton
I was asked to write something about Gastronomy, that..s food in laymen terms. So here goes, People eat food, food sustains life and food is mostly good. How..s that, Brilliant right? Now I..d like to do this with my twist. Most individuals go out to restaurants not just for appetizing food. They get together for dating (my favorite), fun, social events and business. But whatever the reason, I want to focus on proper dining etiquette which should always start off by meeting in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. This will give you a much better chance of making those important connections, and if it..s a date then you..ll be on point like a sniper!
1. Be sure and make reservations if you are going to a fancy or popular restaurant. It can be very embarrassing to show up without reservations and having to wait an hour or two for a table. Also, be sure to check to see if they have a dress code and dress properly. (remember what I said about flip flops and throwbacks)Be sure and tell your date there is one in advance and possibly what to wear.
2. When being seated do not allow them to place you in "bad" spots such as noisy areas, next to the restrooms, by the front or back door, areas with a bad atmosphere, etc. Because Bad karma causes indigestion!
3. If you..re on a date, should you order for your date? My opinion, Hell yeah! you should always order for your date irregardless if its ..Mickey D..s.. or a classy restaurant, ask her in advance what she wants and when the service comes, order for her. This always makes a good impression on women and puts points on the board for later (wink)
4. Be sure and use your napkin and place it in your lap. Do not tuck it in your belt or use it as a bib. You get an ..A.. for effort in Class here!
5. When your food comes don't gulp your food down like you haven't eaten in a week. Eat at a moderate pace so you will have more time for conversation. It makes a bad impression and you..ll spend the rest of the meal watching others eat and the service fold napkins.
6. When eating insert your fork straight in your mouth. Do not place your fork in the side of your mouth. This enhances the chances of you spilling your food. Whereby I would have to rescind tip 4 and say ..Get that Bib on ya dam neck before you embarrass us all!..
7. Do not slurp your soup, smack your lips, or chew with your mouth open. Nothing is nastier than watching someone talk and chew their food at the same time.
8. If you get food stuck in your mouth do not pick it out with your fingers or fork at the table. Or sit there sucking your teeth like your trying to whistle out of your ears. Excuse yourself and go to the restroom and get it out with a toothpick.
9. Lastly be sure and leave at least a 15% tip (unless the service is bad). Now pay attention, a single women will judge you on your tipping habits. If you..re cheap it doesn..t leave a good impression on them, and may reduce points on the board whereby definitely putting you in bad scoring position. Hey were we talking food or sports? Anyway don..t whip out a pen and paper or calculator to calculate the tip, here..s an easy way to do it in your head. Let's say that your bill comes to $45.10. Move the decimal point one place to the left (this will come to $4.51 which is 10% of the bill). Now divide $4.51 by 2 which will give you $2.25. Now add $4.51 + $2.25 = $6.76 in your head and this will give you a 15% tip. That wasn't so hard was it?

<img width='1' height='1' Pros, Cons & Coexistence in the Caribbean

By Chet Euton

The Alpha Female, she exists and they are out there. Not traveling in wild marauding packs or hysterically shrieking mobs but managing corporations, leading governments, inspiring others, building countries and reconstructing the Caribbean in all contemporary aspects. The historical existence of women throughout the Caribbean especially women of color who have in the past toiled as field labors and household servants has always served as a benchmark for today's enlightened upwardly mobile Caribbean women wanting to realize new accomplishments and break personal grounds. Their social and civil status as minuscule as it may have been is taking on new dimensions and the Caribbean woman is redefining her self. At present irregardless of her now diverse ethnic origins, she is the epitome of Alpha Female!
For starters forget the pejorative perception associated with Alpha Males, the excessive masculinity, the tyrannical behavior and the sexual aggression. The Alpha Female from tip to toe is a dissimilar persona with inherent qualities suited for her success and her survival.
But what does it take for a woman to be successful on a small island where slave mentality still roams better than cellular service? What are the advantages of these accomplishments and what are the costs?
Before we can identify "Ms. Alpha" and her focus let us first seek to define her broadly so as not to limit our assessment. This hybrid woman in layman terms is all of or combinations of the following traits, physical prowess, self assuredness, voracious intelligence, a high achiever, shrewd when required, socially adept, effortlessly talented (in her field) and able to achieve her goals wholly! Not to be confused with the controlling, loud-mouthed, over assertive, typical type "A" female; the "Other" female who is an insecure self indulgent doppelganger that thrives on pandemonium, misinformation and misdirection to greatly complicate life. But that is another topic of discussion.
What motivates The Alpha Female? Largely the potential for success; success that she may measure by her journey, her results, recognition or possibly the wealth, prestige and power that normally motivates her male counterparts and accompanies the diverse levels of success in today's patriarch societies. A success which in Caribbean societies by nature is often quite a fleeting experience for women in general.
In my humble estimation because of the era we live in, there isn't too much "Major Pioneering" by professional women today. Now I didn't say there wasn't any and before some of you get defensive grab a rope and saddle up, this is what I am indicating. There have been numerous women in previous decades that have opened crucial and key doors to attain many principal achievements, which have set precedence and bookmarked history. Logically today the next step for the Alpha Female is to take it to the next level, pick up the ground work and run with it. It's more the utilization of inroads that have been laid, developing the networks and strategically placing ones self based on this precedence in a position to obtain success. Take for example Professor Joycelin Massiah who in my assessment is one of those few pioneers and a genuine Caribbean Alpha Female. Professor Massiah's life path rises above Caribbean boundaries, having been born in Guyana, studied and worked for several years in Jamaica and now residing as a citizen of Barbados. She is a renowned Caribbean academic, scholar and intellectual who can be characterized by her many "firsts", an appropriate indication of a career focused on nothing short of excellence. Professor Joycelin Massiah is well known for her groundbreaking research project on "Women in the Caribbean" and her vision and commitments are most definitely an integral component to the overall evolution of the Caribbean region.
What are the pitfalls? In most instances the very qualities and character that drives the Alpha Female to the forefront of her endeavors ironically aren't enough to propel them to their goals, and may even be possibly holding them back. Such situations and missed opportunities are often produced by men's unwillingness to mentor women, the fear of emasculation by men in professional and personal relationships with Alpha Females. Blatant discrimination, women's segregation from informal networks, an uncertainty to consider women for challenging posts and women's own battles to balance careers, relationships and families.
Ultimately the greatest disadvantage is the definite chance of losing oneself on the pilgrimage to success. Case in point I quote Marianne Williamson "Electing women to positions of political power does not in itself guarantee the expression of a feminine voice in the external world. Once in power, women can be tempted to conspire with the paternalistic system that they feel has so magnanimously allowed them a place at the table. They feel compelled to be strong men among strong men."
Now I am not devaluing Ms. Alpha by no means, way, shape or form. Nor can I propose answers or solutions to these barriers. Empowerments come from within; I merely want to convey my commendation of her independence and individuality in an ever more industrialized Caribbean region while shedding light on the trials and tribulations of the Alpha Female. My suggestion is a "Peaceful Coexistence" a cold war term that in concept asserts contrasts can exist. Let us be cognizant of this on a day to day basis with hopes of lessening the "Antagonistic contradiction" with mutual respect and unfeigned equality.
Inevitably with anticipation we may be looking at an era of Caribbean Alpha Females who are consensus leaders, providers and builders. Who don't lead from the front but propel their colleagues, constituents and companies forward using the conventional female skills such as listening, nurturing and the conscientiousness that is woman. Hopefully with inclusive support, the prospect of keeping this strange new world together and all the while encouraging humanity the alpha female will take her respective place in Caribbean society.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://e1productions.blogspot.com/2007/12/alpha-female-pros-cons-coexistence-in.html' title='The Alpha Female .... Well I'm not talking leather biker jackets and big hair; nor am I suggesting a refreshing Mojito with some blue jazz tune smoothly layered over ocean echoes in the backdrop. No I'm talking about a movement strictly from the fashion sense. A pursuit with extreme regards to fashionable, sophisticated and exclusive lifestyles that personify well groomed, attractive and elegant living. Now you might be thinking dam that mouthful is a bit arrogant, egotistical and very self important. Maybe, but despite the various antiquated trends or fly by night fads; attitude and style have always exemplified cool! Why? Simply because in our era, although cool is susceptible to frequent change, it still remains a personal power expressed in conduct and dictated by appearance. Ah, understood you say but what about style and attitude? Well they are two variables which are as inconsistent as liberals discussing politics and economy. Unfortunately in our brazen attempts to be ultra unique, to be daringly different we have redefined the very quintessence of cool and suppressed the refinement that is style and attitude by allowing anything from dirty designer garments to funky faux fabrics to be trade marked as cool. In fact what has become increasingly evident and the one thing that has remained constant is the ability to down play sophistication by acknowledging it as fashion! Don't believe me, think back to those numerous occasions while attending some vertically prone function in the hopes of being cool that we have gone unshaven, possibly hair mussed or clothes tattered, all in the name of making a statement. Yes guilty as charged!
But alas grasp the inevitable, 2007 is coming to a conclusion and with it a behavior devoted to the obligation of "letting it all hang out" so to speak, a lifestyle that has always been over the top and frankly quite camp. In laymen's terms, we the masses have let ourselves go. We've gotten away from that urbane exterior that affects professional image. The urge to emulate salty surfers and "Lumber Jocks" has emblazoned a demeanor of slapdash aesthetics. Leaving us with archaic jerseys, formal work clothes, official knock offs and no fashion sense.
Expectedly, out of these unapologetic ashes the movement, the resurgence of cool, a new climate of self-confident collared shirts and cuffs with smart dinner jackets driven by intellectual and cultural empowerment will be rising. We are beginning to dilute the muddled untidiness and push forward with a clean concept of cool. Men and women are once again taking stock in the finer things in life and challenging themselves to simply dress appropriately and proficiently.
Now you don't have to be a full time "fashionista" and we all know there is a difference between hanging at the ole hoedown and ripping a red carpet premier, but somewhere in the middle more are finding the path. My forecast is that 2008 will see significant transformations in active work and leisure life couture. Focus being on exquisitely tailored masculinity for men and sleek chic femininity for women. All empowering garments that reek of confidence and glamour again, the Resurgence of "COOL"!
